‘Familiar is a piece questioning how society can force us into traditional roles and stereotypes based on different subjects such as gender, mental health, and social-class, and how sometimes we encourage these stereotypes to feel included/safe despite how damaging they can be to us. How do we break these stereotypes to express our individuality to feel comfortable in our own skin and have our own voice? The work questions social justice, feminism, expectations, coping mechanisms and how everyone is unique, drawing upon the experiences of the creative team. Company K aims to empower and encourage various audiences to situations where they truly expressed themselves without fear of judgement, while also questioning, in a sensitive way, why conservative voices might oppose the ideals the piece represents.’
